Take it to heart

Original devotional reflection; this is not a Scripture quotation.

A busy day can hide the difference between what is urgent and what is important. Let today's passage interrupt that confusion for a moment. Which responsibility deserves your best attention, and which demand can wait? Consider your duties, your relationships, and the promises you have made. Not everything can be done at once. Ask for the grace to choose honestly, explain necessary limits kindly, and give one worthwhile task the attention that constant hurry would take away.

Let us pray together

Original prayer

God, help me choose with a clear and generous heart. Teach me to honor real responsibilities without obeying every demand for immediacy. Give me courage to explain my limits kindly and patience to attend well to the person or task entrusted to me now. Amen.

One small step today

Choose one important task or relationship for focused attention today. Set aside fifteen minutes for it and tell someone kindly if another request must wait.

As the day comes to a close

Five moments to look back on your day with God.

  1. Close the day as one closes a letter — signed in love.
  2. Recall a conversation. Did Christ speak through it?
  3. The heart, too, needs examining. What does it feel right now?
  4. Offer your wounds. Christ knows them — He bore them too.
  5. May your last thought be: 'Jesus, I trust in You.'

✝ In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Amen.
