Take it to heart

Original devotional reflection; this is not a Scripture quotation.

Much of the work that sustains a household or community is invisible until it is neglected. Notice a task someone regularly carries without applause. Service may begin by recognizing that effort and sharing the responsibility fairly. Do not wait for gratitude before doing what love requires. A modest task completed carefully can free another person to rest, and can teach us to value care that rarely receives attention. Read today’s Scripture slowly, and bring this ordinary situation before God with an open heart.

Let us pray together

Original prayer

Lord, teach me to share unseen responsibilities without seeking applause. Let your grace shape my choices today. Give me an honest heart, patient attention to others, and the humility to begin again when I fail. May my small actions serve love. Amen.

One small step today

Take responsibility for one overlooked shared task and complete it without asking for recognition.

As the day comes to a close

Five moments to look back on your day with God.

  1. Silence. Inward. There where the Spirit prays for you with sighs too deep for words.
  2. Give thanks even for the tears — they too are seed.
  3. Look at the day without judging yourself. Look only for Him in it.
  4. Let it go. Do not carry tomorrow what was forgiven today.
  5. Blessed be the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — now and always.

✝ In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Amen.
